Finance Director | Rapid Growth Luxury b2b Retailer | Old Street

    The Company:

Headquartered in central London, our client is highly regarded within the European luxury business-to-business retail sector. Their turnover has grown from £30-£40 million within the past two years, prompting significant investment in new leadership hires prior to launching their first USA office in Q3 2020. Harmonic Finance are acting as sole, retained agent.

    Company culture and workplace:

Working from their beautiful architect-designed offices, the culture of the business is professional, but defiantly non-corporate. In spite of significant recent growth in headcount the co-founders retain supportive communication with employees at all levels and there is a conscious focus upon providing team members with excellent professional development and career progression opportunities.

Unsurprisingly, staff retention is excellent (many employees have remained with the business for over ten years). While in an industry not renowned for its diversity, it's noteworthy that this organisation are market-leading in this regard.

The broader out-of-hours social scene is also excellent, covering activities ranging from; fitness, travel and drinks in the local bars. Long-service is also rewarded by 'John Lewis'-style partnership financial bonuses.

    The Role:

The successful candidate will be the first full time Finance Director and will balance an ability to manage a 'best in class' commercial finance and financial reporting function with the capacity to undertake a vocal leadership role within the broader business. Finance does not sit as 'back office' at this company, and as such the role requires a candidate who is a confident communicator and influencer, with a drive to provide support and leadership on broader operational initiatives where required.

Revenue is typically invoiced in the form of projects, so candidates with an aptitude for managing teams with a commercial 'project accounting' outlook will be looked upon favourably. This will be particularly so in instances where their outlook is geared towards establishing close finance business partnering relationships between Sales and Operations. The first six months at least- the role is suitable for a 'player coach' rather than a more hands-off strategy-focussed Finance Director.
