Head of Finance | Private-Equity Backed VFX and Animation Studio | London

The Client

Harmonic is pleased to be working on a retained basis with a growing, private equity backed Visual Effects and Animation studio who are looking to welcome a Head of Finance to oversee the Visual Effects (VFX) arm of the business.

This studio has worked on several high-profile, award-winning projects and has been contracted with major streaming studios and production houses such as Netflix, Disney+, BBC, and Apple TV.

Having been backed by an industry-leading private equity firm earlier this year, this company is expanding their project capacity and hiring more team members to support their impressive growth. They are looking to hire a Head of Finance for Visual Effects to work closely with their talented Managing Director on the forward-looking, commercial elements of the business.

Based in a cool, modern office space in Central London, this studio houses a friendly and warm team that creates a family-feel workplace environment. This is a hybrid role, with 2-3 days expected in the office each week.

The Role

Reporting directly to a talented Managing Director, the Head of Finance would contribute to the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) functions of the VFX projects within the business. As the Head of Finance for Visual Effects, you would have excellent visibility with the Finance Director and the Board. You'd be partnering closely with the MD, supporting on strategic decisions for the business, contributing to the forecasting and business planning. An understanding of the market is favourable, but not essential. The ideal candidate will have a strong FP&A and commercial finance background, a solid grasp on management accounts and will be skilled at creating detailed forecasting models and identifying associated risks.

Duties:

  • Work closely with the MD to contribute to business strategy, analyse market trends, assess risks and opportunities.
  • Effectively monitor cashflow and costs.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Director to effectively communicate revenue
  • Analyse financial data across various projects for use in monthly Board meetings
  • Liaise with the Head of Production to coordinate efficient financial frameworks.
  • Forecast revenue and monitor sales pipeline to ensure adherence to the business plan
  • Create processes alongside to track actuals and produce monthly forecasts.
  • Monitor and communicate updates regarding profitability of projects, integrating KPI data and providing recommendations based on findings
  • Offer insight into market trends to inform business strategy and new opportunities

What we need to see (essential):

  • Experience working within the Media & Entertainment industry
  • Competency in FP&A duties
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel

What we like to see (bonus):

  • Qualified/Part-Qualified (CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
  • Previous experience as a Production Accountant
  • Prior experience in the TV & Film industry
  • Proficiency using Sage Line 50 and Ceta

Salary: £75,000-£85,000

Location: Central London
