Fractional CFO | Ambitious Electric Vehicle Start-Up | 6-Month Contract

The Client

Harmonic are delighted to be working exclusively with an innovative and ambitious Electric Vehicle Start-Up to find them an immediately available Fractional CFO who can support them through a defining period in their growth. Our client is currently aiming to raise £10 million in Series-A funding to take them through their next R&D phase with the aim of having a product to take to market in the next 12-18 months. They have friendly and welcoming yet hard working culture and are looking for someone who can buy into not only this but also the long-term vision for the company's growth.

Having already received £15m in funding from a mixture of grants and angel investors, our client now requires more significant investment from a VC fund, Corporate Venture, or family offices. Having proven concept already and created a working prototype, further research and development is required to make their business efficient, scalable, and eventually profitable. Having grown to 125 headcount over the past year - split between the UK, Europe, and Africa - they plan to invest heavily into hiring further engineers who can bring their concept to reality.

This role will be fully remote, however they do have an office based in the West Midlands should the successful candidate prefer to work in the office. The client is open to Full time Interim as well as Fractional (Part-Time) options. There is also a high likelihood that following a successful fundraise the role would be transfer from Interim to permanent.

The Role

This role will lead their fundraising effort over the next 6-months and requires a candidate who has a background in raising funds for SME's, ideally in the EV space. Working directly with the executive to formulate a fundraising strategy focussing on investors in the UK and Europe with a history of investing in climate focussed Start-Ups. The role will also rely heavily on ensuring the finance function and team behind is prepared for rapid scaling post investment which will require a full health check on the business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver a successful fundraise.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the executive team and across the business.
  • Use contacts within VC and fundraising landscape to drum up external interest in the company and its mission.
  • Oversight of the entire Finance Function.
  • Take ownership of the financial performance of the business, helping the business achieve their strategic aims.
  • Perform a health check on the company and ensure process are efficient and robust for scaling.

Essential Experience

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA,ACCA,CIMA)
  • At least 5 years' experience as a CFO and previously managed a finance team.
  • Previous experience leading on a Seed or Series A fundraise.
  • Experience with Investor relations.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience within fast moving Start-Ups.
  • Strong Commercial and strategic mind-set.

Bonus Experience

  • Experience as a CFO in an EV or Renewable energy Start-Up

Day Rate: £1000-£1250/day (Outside IR35)
