Job description

Finance Manager | Fast-growth Food Tech scaleup | London

Harmonic Finance are proud to be working exclusively with one of the UKs most exciting Food Technology businesses for the hire of a Finance Manager.

The role is one of the the most exciting to come to market in 2022, as it presents candidates with incredible exposure to some of Europe's best investors (think the people behind HelloFresh and Gorillas). The role also provides the new incumbent with the chance to shape the finance function as the first hire, with a direct progression to Head of Finance.

You will be reporting directly to the founders of the business and its investors, and you will be working alongside some of the most ambitious minds in the food and technology space. This start-up has plans to be one of the fastest growing in Europe with an ambitious plan to grow their hubs to c.80 in 3 years, with turnover in excess of £50 million.

The role will initially be weighted 70 / 30 in favour of technical financial accounting vs commercial while you establish best practice processes for the business. However, the client is at pains to stress that there will be opportunities to be involved actively in more commercial FP&A activities once the processes and systems are built out.

Required skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Confident communication style: there is a desire for this role to be perceived as "business partner, not back office" by the wider business.
  • Qualified ACA or ACCA (preferred). CIMA candidates will be considered who possess good technical accounting experience.
  • Recent experience in either a Finance Manger (or a Management Accountant/Financial Accountant role which required management of at least one colleague).
  • A track record of identifying (and delivering) process improvements within a Finance function.
  • A solid theoretical (and ideally practical) understanding of revenue recognition.
  • Experience working with VC (venture capital) or PE (private equity) investors. We are looking for candidates with strong presentation skills and ability to partner with external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the month end financial accounts process.
  • Full production of the Management Accounts.
  • Production of Financial Statements (balance sheet, P&L, cashflows).
  • Help lead the year end Audit process.
  • Manage tax projects (Corp Tax, Quarterly VAT).
  • Manage (and consistently improve) Financial Controls.

Desired industry experience:

Our client is flexible- competencies and behaviours are most important. However, candidates with some hospitality, ecommerce, Saas (software as a service) and multisite experience will have a slight advantage. As will those who have some exposure to a rapid-growth start-up or scale-up business.

Work location:

London Zone 1 (brand new excellent office). Expectation for 2 days minimum from office when safe to do so.

Culture:

Fun, and very caring of team members with a really supportive and engaged culture. As well as great commercials they are big on culture and regularly have socials and drinks as they increase headcount.

Salary:

£60,000 - 70,000 + benefits package (bonus)

Start date:

Client will wait for up to 3 month notice periods, but have a preference for a candidate who can start in 4-8 weeks.

Process:

Interview with founders of the business, followed by a test and final interview with founders and investors
