Job description

Financial Controller | Fast Growth Manufacturing Technology Business | Oxford/Hybrid

Harmonic are delighted to be working on an exclusive basis with an Oxford-based manufacturing business in their search for a Financial Controller to join their ever-expanding team. Our client are pioneers in developing specialist tech used by well-established and respected brands in various sectors, from transport to FMCG companies.

Often receiving specialist R&D and innovation grants, our client has grown significantly in the past 5 years, to become the industry leaders in the sector. Using a predominantly B2B strategy and with strong relationships with loyal customers, our client is looking for a commercially astute Financial Controller to work alongside the Directors on the company's growth strategy. The role offers progression to a Finance Director/Head of Finance role in the future, so the ideal candidate is someone determined to reach this level.

With the business still owned by an impressive Founder duo, their drive and passion for growth lies at the centre of everything they do. This vision is shared by the entire team and has a huge impact on the impressive culture they have built. You will be surrounded by intelligent and ambitious individuals, all dedicated to the continued expansion of the company. They have a fun, collaborative atmosphere with an equal focus on a social, healthy culture and balance as well as maximising operational and financial efficiency.

The Role:

Reporting directly to the Founders, the Financial Controller will focus on the development of the company's commercial finance structure as well as owning the day-to-day performance of the function. This will include, but is not limited to, the development of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) functions, financial modelling and budgeting processes and Finance Business Partnering (FBP) alongside departmental leads and the senior leadership team. You will be given direct responsibility for designing and implementing these processes in a very autonomous culture.

Alongside this, you will also take ownership of the daily finance function, set up by the previous Financial Controller. Whilst an internal Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing the transactional finance function, you will be expected to constantly be seeking improvements and optimising processes and systems.

As you'd imagine within a start-up, this is an incredibly broad role, where you will have a large influence on the HR function as well as leading the finance function. You will be responsible for liaising with the HR manager to understand best practice and potential developments for employee welfare and relations. The ideal candidate is proactive, forward thinking, and friendly - and equally committed to developing the already excellent company culture as well as it's growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing the FP&A and Business Partnering functions.
  • Overseeing the entire HR function
  • Implementing new financial controls and processes to ensure 'best practice'.
  • Managing relationships with the external accountant on year end audit and statutory accounts.
  • Working with Directors to provide insight on financial performance, financial modelling and ultimately having an impact on financial strategy to drive growth.
  • Analysing historic financial results and performance to ensure accurate budgets and forecasting.
  • Monitoring full manufacturing costings and maximising the financial capacity of the operation.
  • Acting as a driver for the company's commercial development
  • Managing and mentoring a growing team across finance and human resources.

What we need to see (requirements):

  • Qualified accountant - ACA or ACCA.
  • At least 2 years' experience in audit from a reputable accountancy practice.
  • Creative thinker and clear communicator.
  • Commercially focused with strong commercial finance and analysis experience.
  • Ambitious approach and an understanding of the 'chaos' that life in a start-up can sometimes involve!
  • Be a proactive and inspirational leader.
  • Exposure to HR responsibilities and practices.

What we would like to see (bonus):

  • Experience in a manufacturing or product-based business
  • Previous experience working within start-up or scale-up

Salary: £70,000 - £80,000 + benefits (including bonus and equity share options)

Location: Oxford with Hybrid model (max 3 days in the office)

Start date: ASAP
